The tenth anniversary of establishing Somali Institute of Management and Administration Development (SIMAD) is approaching very fast. In the past 10 years, SIMAD was and still is striving to become a leading higher learning institution in the modern management sciences and technology in the post state collapse era of Somalia. Although SIMAD achieved many of its goals since 1999, there are many more to achieve yet. This shortcoming is mainly due to reasons related to the environment under which it operates. Among the long-term goals to achieve thus far is publishing a Business Magazine. Publishing professional magazines is not an easy exercise in places like Somalia due to a combination of many interacting factors, which sometimes hinder the attainment of highly admired goals.

Publishing SOMALI BUSINESS REVIEW (SBR) is not an achievement for the institute only but the Somali society as a whole. The magazine is intended to becoming a leading source of information, space, and a forum for many actors operating different private organizations and representing different sectors of the society. However, the focus of the magazine will mainly remain on the issues pertaining to the budding private sector of Somalia.

As the magazine serves the private sector, it will also act as an interlocutor between the young Somali researchers who had been lacking space to publish and the private sector institutions, both national and international, that are lacking genuine and reliable local information that can assist them to interact with the challenging and demanding environment of Somalia.

Besides the provision of the space to interact, the magazine will advocate and support the development of best practices culture among the local entrepreneurs, the private sector leaders and the society. The long-term aim of this advocacy and development is to change the current deficiencies and the capacity limitations of the private organizations in Somalia. This will come through the provision of eye opening capacity building sources and tips. As many organizations complain about the unavailability of reliable information from the local market in terms of penetration, capacity and diversity, the magazine will strive to assist in providing this needed information using multiple and diverse research tools and techniques.

In concluding this brief introductory note, I would like to praise the selfless effort of SIMAD staff in general and those in the Center for Creative Development Solution (CCDS), which will be in charge of publishing the magazine, in particular. CCDS succeeded to publish the first magazine that will address the ever-increasing demands of the Somali private sector that are determined to make Somalia a better place to live. In addition, I would like to encourage the subscribers, the readers and the public in general to support CCDS to improve the quality of the magazine in terms of content and distribution. Congratulations to become one of the readers of the first edition of a magazine waited for more than a decade.
What a wonderful moment. Cheers !
